| Notes | Am looking for proof that Anna Rowena Kokoska was born in Grudziadz, West Prussia, 19 March 1826, and that she emigrated to USA ( entered via NYC) with sisters Theresa and Mollie around 1850, as recorded by my great-aunt Anna Mary Bowne who as a youngster, knew Anna R. Kokoska and lived in same town (Elmira,NY). 1900 Fed Census of Elmira, NY, says Anna emigrated 1856. I do not know names of Anna's parents. Anna apparently had 2 brothers: Karl, a shoemaker; Wilhelm, a glovemaker. Neither emigrated as far as I know. Anna married, in Elmira, NY, Frederick Backer 29 April, 1857; 3 of their 5 children survived to adulthood. Anna R. Kokoska Backer died 24 Aug, 1906 in Elmira,NY, and is buried there in Woodlawn Cem. |
