Notes My great grandfather (Tomasz Chwalkowski), my grandfather (Vincent Chwalkowski) and his brother (Lucjan Chwalkowski) immigrated from Praszka in 1906. They brought the rest of the family over in 1909. My father was born Mitchell Chwalkowski but unfortunately was convinced by the dean of his college to change his last name. He chose Vincent because his father was known as Mr. Vincent. My middle name and my 1st son's middle is Chwalkowski.
Lucjan Chwalkowski was the 1st Polish officer killed in Feance in WW1. He had no children. Walter Chwalkowski shortened his last name to Chwals. The other 3 children were girls so the Chwalkowski surname has not been passed on in my family.
However, I am very proud of this name and would like to know more about my ancestors.
There does not seem to be many Chwalkowskis in Poland or the US. I did find out about a book written in 1684, by Mikolaj Chwalkowski, about Nicolao de Chwalkowo (Chwalkowski), but it is in Latin so I have no idea what it is about. I also found several other Chwalkowskis in the US. Some have passed away, the others I have not been able to reach.
I would really appreciate any help I could get in finding out more about the Chwalkowski family still in Poland. I would also like to find out if any other Chwalkowski relatives came to the US and where they settled.
Hopefully someone can help.
