Hello from Australia,

My parents came to Australia in 1949 (father Polish / mother German). I am trying to trace my ancestors from my mother's side and was hoping that members from this site could assist me in some way as I do not speak or read the Polish language - English only.

Below is detailed the information that I have and would be most grateful if anyone can supply information of documentary or photographic evidence. I believe that my mother's ancestors came from around the German town of DRIESEN (Kries Friedeberg) now known as DREZDENKO (Voivodeship Lubusz, County Strzelce-Drezdenko).

1. Carl Gottlieb WABNITZ born in Woitsdorf.
2. Bertha Emilie Alwine MONKE born around 1872 in Marzenin (Marienthal) in the Parish of Rapin. Bertha married Carl Wabnitz.
3. Frederich SPLETTSTOESER and his wife Anna (birth name not known) - no other details available.
4. Wilhelm SPLETTSTOESER born 1894 and his wife Frieda (birth name not known) born 1895.
5. Paul Karl Herman WABNITZ born 1904 (possibly in Rapin) and his wife Frieda Hildegard SPLETTSTOESER born 1906. Paul was a builder/carpenter and was drafted into the German Army and was reported missing in 1945. These are my mother's parents.
6. My mother Christa Frida WABNITZ (born 1925) her brother Heinz WABNITZ (born 1927 and died at war 1945) and her sister Ingrid Brigite WABNITZ (born 1935) were all born in Driesen.
7. Irmgard, Gisela and Richard SPLETTSTOESER were the children from Wilhelm and Frida SPLETTSTOESER.

Wilhelm SPLETTSTOESER worken in the local newspaper office as, I believe, the Editor. As a young girl my mother also worked at the newspaper office as an apprentice typesetter. The name of the newspaper is "Driesener Zeitung".

Thank you and I look forward to your contact.

Regards,

Henry

Just a follow-up on my original message. Can anyone assist me or have any contacts in Drezdenko?

Henry, Take a look at SGGEE.ORG, "The Society for German Genealogy in Eastern Europe"

I found much information in their database's and even more help via their forum.

Good Luck,

Henry,
I think I found some of your Splettstößer ancestors in historical address books provided by the German 'Verein für Computergenealogie'. I'm attaching the respective screenshots for you. Splettstößer Walter and Splettstößer Wilhelm are Schriftsetzer (typesetters).

Henry,
I wish I could help you progress with your family research, but all I can give you is some tidbits of information that I'm finding in the Internet. I have done some research in Germany, but not at all in this area. I think the best way for you to find out more about your ancestors is to join a mailing list or to post at a forum focusing on family research in Neumark to get in contact with others who may have information on the surnames you are researching or who can direct you to some useful resources. Perhaps this gentleman who is Head of the Neumark Research Group ( http://www.genealogy.net/reg/BRG/neumark/index_e.htm ) may be able to help you. His e-mail address is: [email protected]
Genealogy.net has a list of 54 people with the name Splettstößer in their database "Familiendatenbank Kreise Arnswalde und Friedeberg (Neumark)"
http://www.online-ofb.de/namelist.php?ofb=arnswalde_friedeberg&nachname=SPLETTST%F6%DFER&modus=&lang=de

I did a search in Google for “Driesen, Neumark” (in quotation marks) and found some old photos of Driesen
http://wbg.khd-research.net/Dsn/Driesen_Fotos_01.html
Ebay also has some old postcards and collector items of Driesen that you might enjoy seeing

Hello Henry , I live in Drezdenko and I can help you, although I do not know how Smile I can do for you photos of the city and houses where your ancestors lived. You can also see the city in a Google Map. Street Hinterstrasse where the family lived Splettstoeser is now called Wiejska. A reference numbering changed.
On the http://www.online-ofb.de/namelist.php?ofb=arnswalde_friedeberg&ort=Driesen,%20Kreis%20Friedeberg/Nm&e=geburt&sort_by=zuname&lang=plI found the family Wabnitz and Splettstoeser

Hello Magdah, Thank you very much for this information - very helpful as there was additional family names on the list that I was after. As a teenager my mother, Christa Wabnitz, was a type-setter at the Driesener Zeitung. Do you know this news-paper? I am really interested in any birth, death, marriage, christening, confirmation notices that may have appeared in this newspaper (all dates for family names Wabnitz, Splettstoesser, Werner).
Thank you for your offer to take photographs of my ancestral homes - this would be very much appreciated. Can you please tell me if there any cemetery records from Driesen especially when it was part of Germany and are there any grave stones?
Regards,
Henry

Henry! I found some information about your family - but mostly on the Internet. In Drezdenko do not have much information about former residents - city records are located in the State Archives in Gorzow Wielkopolski, but currently are not available (to fall), because file is transferred to the new building. In the church there is an old vital records - our priests do not know what happened to them. I do not have details of the cemetery board.
Data about your family, please visit and http://www.online-ofb.de/namelist.php?ofb=arnswalde_friedeberg&nachname=WABNITZ&modus=&lang=en

As can be seen from this data, your mother was the daughter of Friedrich Splettstößer born in 1865 and Anna born in 1875. They lived in the building - in the picture.

Friedrich and Anna apart from your mother, they have a daughter Ingrid (but I do not know about it), the son of Heintz was born 06/10/1927 died 01/02/1945, and his son William was born in 1894. His wife Frieda nee Werner was born on 01.06.1895 and died on 09.06.1980, in Albstadt in Germany Maybe there is some family you should look for your mother?
Splettstrosser Wilhelm and his wife lived in the house

If your mom was born in Driesen, that's for sure Smile Hospital hospital here since the nineteenth century. Two years ago, demolished the oldest part, but it looks like this
