Has anyone heard of a town or place called Mislece? I am sure the spelling is not correct, but that is how it is listed here.

This name appears on a WWII draft card of a great uncle of mine. It lists the country as Poland but earlier in life on his marriage license, he says he was from Austria.

Hi,

Maybe Myślenice? Circa 20 km South of Krakow, a city of 20000+ today. It was in Austrian Poland.
Or Myślec, very tiny village South of Nowy Sącz. Austrian Poland.
Or Mielec, city of 60000+ today. Austrian Poland.

More information needed to find out your place.

Best,
Elzbieta

Elzbieta,

Thanks for answer. I would figure it is one of those places as well. I will keep looking for more clues.

You are probably looking for Mielec Poland. My mothers family was from the village of Mielec. There last name was Uzar.

I think that knowing his name and surname could be helpful.

His name on his grave marker is Ludwick Wantorek. I have also seen Ludwig as his first name, and variations of Wonterek, Vantorek for the surname. I have all the census records as he lived his entire US life in Mt Pleasant PA, married to my grandmother's sister. I just located what I think could be his manifest from 1910, which matches the date on a census record. I am attaching it here. Looks like the town might be Chelm? And is says Galacian as nationalilty. 7th row from the bottom, left hand side of the page.
thanks
Dave

Dave,

Though there were 3 Chelm in what was then Galicia, only one was near a place named Myslenice
Myślenice
siedziba powiatu
siedziba gminy
18054 osoby
woj. małopolskie
pow. myślenicki
gmina Myślenice

The place lies two miles west of Lapczyca

Add note: tons of Wątorek (sounds Wontorek) in Tczyca, few miles north of Krakow. Worth checking.
