My great-grandmother and my grandmother were Bielanskas from Zaluczne. My grandmother Aniela (Nellie) came to America and lived in Chicago from about 1906 onwards. Her mother came in 1932 on a ship named the Pulaski. She lived with her daughter since she was already 72 years old when she left Poland (a brave soul). I had been told that she had a large number of children, but up to 9 died in an epidemic which left her isolated from her remaining two daughters who had emigrated to America. That was apparently the reason she left at such an advanced age. The story makes little sense to me since my grandmother was born in 1890 and presumably her brothers and sisters would have been mature by 1932. I do not know when the epidemic took place--perhaps years earlier?
