My great grandfather, Jacob Bartkowski, immigrated from Poland to the U.S. in the late 1800's. His son, Frances Bartkowski, also known as Frank was born and raised in Chicago, Ill. He lived and died there and I remember, as a young boy traveling with my parents to attend his funeral around 1954. This last year I went to Poland and stayed there for over five weeks. In looking up the surname, Bartkowski, I noticed that they are few in number. Also, when I visited the Warsaw Uprising Museum, I noted in one of the books that a Bartkowski gave his life for the cause against the Nazi regime.
