My great grandfather was Ignacy Konon who was born in 1879 and immigrated to the US around 1923. His draft card into the military said his birthplace was Dembino, Poland, Russia. I believe this was actually Lithuania. He signed his draft card Ignac Konon. I know it was common for immigrants to change their name or cut it short so I'm not sure if his actual name was longer. But on his marriage license he lists Wincenty Konon as his father and Kostancia Kreugel as his mother. I'm not sure if this is the famous Vincent Conon, Police Commander. He lists their location as Russia - I'm not sure if that part of Poland was considered Russia at the time? I would love to learn more about my great grandfather and more family in Poland. Thank you! |
