My paternal family roots have been traced to a village in a region of Galacia named Dobromirka. I visited the village in 2011 and met with friends and relatives that remembered my father's family living in the region prior to their forced deportation by the Russian military during World War II. Seeing the school where my father, uncle, and aunts were first educated as children, and the church that my grandparents attended with the entire family each Sunday was an incredibly rewarding experience that I will never forget. Galacia has a rich and dynamic history dating back to the 10th century. It was once part of the Polish empire and was ruled at other times by Austria, Czechoslovakia, Romania, and Russia. It is now part of the Ukraine. I would be interested in connecting with others that have family roots in this region or have a relation to the Kruk surname. |
