The Milkow, from where my grandfather, Dmytro Hlek, hailed from is beside Oleszyce where his birth records are. It is near Lubaczow, Podkarpackie, Poland, its geographical coordinates are 50° 12' 0" North, 22° 53' 0" East and its original name (with diacritics) is Miłków. Milkow is a predominatly Ruthenian/Ukrainian village (wies). Cieszanow was the Powiat (administrative district - county) and Lubaczow was the Gmina. His father (either Gregory or Harry Hlek) died when he was a boy, and I am wondering how - was there an uprising in that area? My grandfather was born in 1891, so I am wondering what happened there around 1899 or so. |
