My step-father is very proud of his Polish ancestry, and I'm trying to help him trace his family back to Poland. He has always talked about visiting. I'd like to surprise him with a trip for next summer. I believe I found a record of his great-grandparents' marriage in the Poznań parish of Spławie from 1873. They were John and Mary (Wiśniewska) Jozefczak. They emigrated to Wisconsin in 1880 and eventually changed their name to Jodarski. I am wondering if they still have relatives living in Poznań, or if there is still a parish church in Spławie that my step-father could visit. His maternal great-grandparents are Frank and Anna (Dera) Pernitzke. I have not been able to trace their relatives in Poznań because those surnames seem to be very common. They both emigrated as young children in the 1870s, and I have no record of their parents' names. Any information about those families or the town would be much appreciated. |
