Research notes My US roots are in Posen, Presque Isle County, Michigan.  I am trying to locate more information about my Great-Grandmother, Catherine Lewandowski(my Mother's Mother).  She was born somewhere in Prussia and was married to a Valentine Pzyszynski  in Labiszyn, Poland.  Maybe that town WAS in Prussia in the 1800's.  She married my Grandfather, Michael Nowaczewski in Posen, Michigan.  Although there are many Lewandowski's in Posen and surrounding areas, I was told none of them are directly related to Katarszyna Lewandowska.

Michael Nowaczewski was born in Tomczyce (sp), Wagrowiec, Prussia and married Michaelina Krawczyk 1/30/1859 in Smogulec, Poland.  I did find the marriage record on a Polish State Site.  They came to the US together with 2 daughters.  Michaelina died in 1880 and he married Catherine in 1881.

My Mother's Father: On the Purol side, my Grandfather, Leon (leo) Purol's father, Franciscus Purol, came to the US from Prussia and the ship's record states the name as Purrull.  Leon's mother, Petronella Beatrice Jarocka Szulz, came from Sokolniki Gniezno Parish, Wielkopolski, Poland.  There are stories that she was the daughter of a German Nobleman and his 'maid'.  Franciscus Purol's parents were Adalbertus Purol and Eva Jasinska.  All were supposedly from Sokolniki.
