Research notes My maternal grandfather, Jan Czernecki (aka John Jackson), emigrated from Galicia (to Canada) in 1900 as an infant. His parents were Jozef and Anna (nee Podhorodecka). Jozef's parents were Andrzej and Maria (nee Ortynska). Anna Podhorodecka's parents were Hilary and Sophia (daughter of Nicolai Lewicki). Josef's sister's son was Leonard H Shebeski, University of Manitoba plant scientist best known for his work with the grain Triticale.

Andrzej Czarnecki's parents were Stanislaw and Petronela (nee Strzelbicka). Stanislaw's parents were Tomasz and Maryanna (nee Iwanicka). Petronela Strzelbicka's parents were Michal and Katarzyna (nee Wereszczynska).

Maria Ortynska's parents were Grzegorz and Juliana (nee Michkowska). Grzegorz's parents were Teodor and Anna (nee Sochacka). Juliana Michkowska's parents were Antoni and Apolonia (nee Baratynska).
