My grandmother, Elena Chomuk (1900), immigrated to the U.S. in Aug 1911 with her mother, Maria Sinkavich Chomuk (1881), and three siblings, Michail (1901), Anna (1903), and Andrew (1907). Her father, Ivan Chomuk (1873), preceded them to the U.S. in 1908. They came through Ellis Island, but settled in San Francisco. Their surname was "Americanized" to Homick (sometimes spelled Homuck). |
