Research notes Records obtained from St. Jakub’s church indicated Adalbertus Joseph Gogoliak was born on 23 March 1883 to Joseph and Anna (from the house of Buron). Adalbertus was born a Roman Catholic and was baptized in St. Jakub’s church on 29 March 1883. St. Jakub’s, because it was Roman Catholic, recorded Albert’s first name in Latin as Adalbertus on his birth certificate. In Slovak, his first name was spelled Adalbert. Adalbert was translated into English as Albert. Albert boarded the S.S. Kaiserin Auguste Victoria at the port of Hamburg, Germany. The Victoria arrived at the port of New York (Ellis Island) on 14 July 1906. When Albert arrived in the USA, he changed the spelling of his last name to Goglick. Albert lived in Portage, PA, married there and had a daughter and son. He is my grandfather.
