Post subject: Viehzanowa Sroda??
In looking at American records for a sibling of my great grandmother, his place of birth is listed as Viehzanowa Sroda. I'm unable to find a location with that name. The next older sibling was born in Olszewo and the next younger in Nietrzanowo. Can you help with this name? Thanks. wuness

Olszewo and Nietrzanowo are close. The only place that is close and it contains the word Sroda is Środa Wielkopolska.
Can You give the name of the person who was born in Viehzanowa Środa, as well as the names of the siblings? _________________ My translations are voluntary, but they take a lot of time and effort, so whenever you want to send money it will be a very nice "Thank you" gift to me.

Hi Marcel & wuness,
The place of birth is a mangled version of Nietrzanowo, the same village where the next younger sibling was born. The error in American docs may have originated from the arrival manifest, where the place was written as the name was heard or it may have originated from how a volunteer indexer read the entry. Dave, the parish where you should look for the birth & baptism record is the same parish where the other siblings were baptized.
Good luck with the search.
Dave

Thank you, Marcel and Dave. That explanation didn't occur to me, but it makes sense. I didn't know John Slomian (1867-1940) existed since he wasn't listed in BaSIA, until I came across him in the Family Search files for Illinois. He emigrated in 1891 as a 25-year-old bachelor. wuness

Hi Dave,
The parish where John and Josephine married would be St. Hyacinth in La Salle, Illinois. If you are interested in a copy of their church marriage record here is a link to the parish contact info: https://cdop.org/location/st-hyacinth-lasalle/ To obtain a copy it would be necessary to make a request to the parish.
