Looking to confirm that Dokudowo, Lida was in the Jelna Roman Catholic parish? I’m unable to find my ancestors in the Jelna parish records on family search so I want to make sure the town is actually in this parish.

Thank you!

Nick

Hi Nick,
It seems that Dokudowo belongs to the parish of Jelna.

Regards,

Hi Nick and Barb,

Family Search also has records for the Roman Catholic Church in Dokudovo itself:

Metrical books, 1833-1834
Roman Catholic Church. Dokudovo (Lida)

Film #2152151, Item 1 and Item 2

They also have the Greek Catholic records for Dokudovo, in case by chance your ancestors were of that faith in those years.

Thank you Sophia and Barb! I haven’t found the word Dokudowo in any of the records for Jelna, but maybe I’m just not seeing it since I’m bad at reading cryllic letters.

Thank you!

I looked there a few years ago but didn't find anything. I wonder if the family came from a different area before Dokudowo/Jelna.

Nick, did you look in Dokudowo itself? Or are the years too early in the Family Search film number I provided?
There are also Dukudowo church records on szukajwarchiwach.

Hi Sophia,

The years are too early on Familysearch. My ancestor was born around 1895. Can you share link to the szukajwarchiwach records?

I am now considering that the family may have been orthodox. Other families that lived nearby in Ipswich and Lowell, Massachusetts with the last name of my ancestor's mother "Anacka" were married in Orthodox churches. Was it common for orthodox and catholics to marry? My ancestor married a Catholic from Galicia and their children were Catholic so I guess I just assumed that he was also Catholic.

Thank you!
