2023 and 2024

(This is copy of our latest newsletter).

It has been awhile since our last message. We have been busy uncovering your roots, traveling with you through Poland and Lithuania (the last trip ended in early December) and doing research for those who couldn’t personally visit the land of their ancestors.

The war in eastern Ukraine continues. For some of you it is a reason to postpone your arrival. I can understand your fears as you follow the situation on the news from a distance. I can only reassure you again that Poland is safe, people are living their lives, many Ukrainians, especially women and children, are staying in our country and feel good and safe here.

As of today (second half of December) we have the highest number of bookings for 2024 since 2020 when the pandemic made traveling almost impossible.

I mentioned to you before about the Polish-Ukrainian Origins Foundation, which we established at the beginning of this year. The mission of the Foundation is to discover a shared past, and to build a shared future for the people of Central and Eastern Europe.

Thanks to the amazing support of many people, in large part the support of you, friends of PolishOrigins, readers of this newsletter, we managed to collect enough funds to organize the first History, Healing, and Hope Tour for 16 teenagers from Zhytomyr Province in Ukraine during the breakthrough of October and November this year.

We will be sharing more about it soon on the Foundation’s website: https://puorigins.org/ . For now we have two short blogs from the young participants Tetiana and Sophia on the Foundation blog: https://puorigins.org/blog/

Now about the 2024 plans. We hope to continue what we have been doing for almost 20 years now (excluding the two year the “covid break”): custom genealogy and history tours: https://polishorigins.com/tours/ .

All the time we have been doing genealogy research: https://polishorigins.com/genealogy/ although we usually have to slow down with that during the tour season months because our genealogists are on the road.

Besides the small private and family tours, as a licensed tour operator we have been organizing group tours for 10 years now. They were not only the three partition tours: Galicia Tour, Prussian Poland Tour and Kingdom of Poland Tour (Russian Poland). We also carry out other group tours for large families (a dozen or more) as well as ready-made tours for institutions interested in designing and conducting tours for their members.

That is why we have decided to propose something new for 2024: historical and cultural group tours across Poland. The itineraries have not been set yet, but we are thinking about including big cities like Krakow, Wroclaw, Poznan, Toruñ, Warsaw, Lublin, Gdansk, and maybe some less known ones like Łódź, Tarnów, Częstochowa, Rzeszów, Białystok, Płock, Przemyśl. Aside from these historical cities, there will be included hidden gems we discovered while covering hundreds of thousands of miles through Poland. We think about 7 to 11 days long tours.

We want to be ready with the details in the first few months of next year, but any feedback, any signs of interest from you would help us design the best possible experience.

Merry Christmas from Poland! Wesołych Świąt Bożego Narodzenia z Polski!

P.S. In one of our previous newsletter (https://polishorigins.com/blog/peasants-life/ I wrote you about another movie adaptation of the book “The Peasants” planned to be released for this year. The film has been in cinemas in Poland since mid-October and it is getting a lot of praise not only from viewers but also on film festivals (see more on IMDB.com https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10651230/ ) It is also a candidate for the Oscars.

If you have a chance to see it at a movie theater near you, my teenage daughter and I highly recommend it. For two hours you plug away from your reality and travel back in time to immerse yourself in the story told in the form of magical paintings with beautiful music.
