Wednesday, August 20 – Krakow
This was our last day in Poland, and we were on our own. There was no problem with that, as it was not hard to find some additional museums to visit and to buy some final gifts and souvenirs. We started with an archaeology museum that was under the main square. About twenty years ago, they dug up the old layers of the city under the square, and did research on the evolution of this very old city. The exhibits were well done and some featured digital displays where you could select the language explaining the artifacts. Much of what you saw were old stone pavements and building foundations.
While walking around, you can’t escape the pastry shops with inviting window displays.
Our last stop was the John Paul II museum. He studied in the university here and was archbishop of Krakow for a period. It had some of his personal belongings and vestments from his several positions in the Church.
We relaxed for while (there has been a lot of walking), packed up, and got a final dinner (breaded pork, chicken with local flavored sauce and potatoes).
