Despite my Scandinavian last name, I am the granddaughter of Polish and Slovak immigrants who has tried over the years to keep alive my family's traditions and pass them on to my two sons. I recently found my grandmother's Ellis Island immigration record, which listed her home village in Poland. Further research in the LDS microfilmed records confirmed the name of the village, Czerniejow (south of Lublin), and I'm hopeful that I can continue the search and uncover more information about her family, as well as my grandfather's. |
